There are currently no other organizations in Cumberland County, PA providing the same type of services related to empowering Black and Brown individuals
Hope Station is seeking dedicated board members to help guide our mission of advancing economic and social mobility for Black and Brown communities across Cumberland County through strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and community advocacy. We especially encourage applicants from outside Carlisle to apply, as we are building a board that reflects the full geographic and cultural diversity of the communities we serve across the county.

Tickets are now on sale for Hope Station's 2nd Annual Hope Station Awards Dinner, taking place on Saturday, September 19 in Carlisle. The evening will celebrate community leaders and supporters while raising critical funds to advance Hope Station's mission. Businesses and community partners are also invited to become event sponsors, making this a meaningful opportunity to support local impact while gaining visibility among attendees and supporters.

The Jim Washington Award is named for Hope Station’s former executive director. This award has been awarded every year since 2016 to an individual who embodies Jim Washington’s spirit and dedication to improving the lives of minorities and underprivileged community members. Nominations must be submitted by August 9, 2026.

Our Youth Leadership Award recognizes a high school student who has shown leadership and taken a lead on social and racial issues in school and/or the community at large. This award distinguishes a trailblazer who is striving to make a difference in their community and promotes acceptance, justice, and dignity for all people. Nominations must be submitted by August 9, 2026.

The Young Adult Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding college student or young adult who demonstrates exceptional leadership, initiative, and a commitment to serving others. This award honors individuals who are making a positive impact through academic achievement, community service, entrepreneurship, advocacy, research, or campus involvement while inspiring others through their dedication and character.

The Educator of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional educator who has demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentorship, leadership, and service. This award honors individuals who inspire lifelong learning, foster student success, and create meaningful opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Eligible nominees must serve students in Cumberland County.

The Historian Award honors an individual or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preserving, documenting, educating, and celebrating the history and cultural heritage of Cumberland County. Through research, storytelling, education, advocacy, or historic preservation, this recipient ensures that the stories, contributions, and experiences of our community—especially those that have been overlooked—are remembered and shared for future generations.

The Nonprofit Excellence Award recognizes an outstanding nonprofit organization that demonstrates exceptional leadership, innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to serving the community. Eligible organizations must provide programs or services in Cumberland County and have a proven record of creating meaningful, measurable change for the individuals and families they serve.

The Entrepreneurship Award recognizes an outstanding Black or Brown-owned business that demonstrates innovation, resilience, community impact, and a commitment to excellence. Eligible businesses must provide products or services within Cumberland County and exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit through leadership, growth, and service to the community.
